At the heart of the city center, the historical food market is located between via Albinelli and piazza XX settembre. What makes this place particularly attractive to the people of Modena is the daily buzz, unchanged for decades, caused by the activities perpetuating centuries old commercial and grassroots traditions.
Stands and shops, 62 to be exact, with their colorful goods open up towards the city streets and alleys. Vendors’ bustling making business, crowded and piled together buyers, idlers’ wandering contribute to the hubbub and to the general atmosphere that make this market, as all the other markets in the world, the most vivid and genuine manifestation of the people’s soul.
Inside the historical building, the younger generations have often inherited the family business, preserving traditional knowledge. It is the appointed place where the most precious delicacies of the territory are showcased, real and not virtual piazza always ready to welcome and dazzle the visiting tourists, as in the past.
The Market is ruled by a Consortium, an association formed by the largest majority of operators. Every two years the meeting of the consortium members appoints the Board of directors.
The Board includes Andrea Solieri, president; Alberto Sirotti, vice president; Sergiu Fodor, Silvia Garretto, Lorella Vaschieri, Gianluca Venturelli, Isabella Giliberti, advisors.
Federazione Associazioni Servizi Assistenziali di Lapam Confartigianato, is responsible for administrative, operative and fiscal management of the Albinelli market.
